Tom Scott

Back»

Speaker, broadcaster and presenter on the Internet, Tom speaks on how to deal with social media (including threats and opportunities), on the accelerating pace of change … and occasionally on tea cosies.

London-based, Tom is often described as a geek and a comedian, with a major on-line following.

Invited to speak at the Eurovision TV Summit in Switzerland, at Ignite London, and at Youth Marketing Strategy, Tom Scott has spoken at Thinking Digital every year since 2009 and is the only regular speaker at “the UK's answer to TED”.

A “talking head” on Sky News, ITV and Al Jazeera English, Tom sometimes writes for The Guardian’s technology blog. As a speaker and event host/MC, Tom’s in demand for his knowledge, sense of humour, far-sightedness and thought-provoking presentations.

He was principal guest speaker at the National Media Museum: principal guest speaker at the ISPA (Internet Service Providers Awards) in London. He was invited to address the prestigious Conference on Parliament and the Internet on topics including online security.

In 2016, Tom was invited to Host and MC the 3-day international WorldHosting Days2016 in Germany – as part of the extensive brief for this major event, he interviewed legendary astronaut Buzz Aldrin and Edward Snowden.

Tom is excellent at Q&A, enjoys a challenge, and his talks can be tailored for your event if you have a specific brief. He headlined at London’s O2 Arena after which the event host said simply “Tom had the audience rockin’!”

Tom builds projects online which are seen and enjoyed by millions of people: 300,000 subscribers: over 50 million YouTube hits.

He features in media worldwide, including BBC1, Time Magazine, Newsweek, Forbes, CNN.com, Al Jazeera and dozens of others.

Tom says: “I have standard business talks, but they’re not all I do. I’ve talked about tea cosies, Hans Zimmer and Eurovision. I’ve hosted a quiz show, spoken at Awards, hosted/MCd conferences. If you reckon I’d be a good fit for what you’re planning, please email Diana at DBA Speakers and we’ll take it from there.”

Tom successfully ran for Student Union President at the University of York in 2008. His university radio show, The Technical Difficulties, won the Kevin Greening Award at the Student Radio Awards. The Technical Difficulties was re-launched as a podcast.

In 2010, Tom captained the Hitch-hikers team in Series 3 of BBC4’s Only Connect, reaching the semi-finals.
